Black History Month Propaganda Poster - Stanley Grizzel
What my understanding of this project was that I was to make a propaganda poster of the person I chosen from the list. What I’ve learned about the person I was making a propaganda poster about was that he was a union activist and the first black judge. The steps I took to make this poster were first I did research and then looked for a picture I liked of him. Once that was done I contrasted the picture and posterized it, traced the outlines and the lights and darks with the pen tool. Then I choose a color scheme and put it in. Some elements of art that I used in my poster are line, shape, color, value and some principals of art that I used in this poster are asymmetrical balance, contrast, harmony.
The program I used was Adobe Illustrator CS4 and the tools I used for this poster was the pen tool, direction tool, selection tool, eye dropper tool.
My opinion on my work is that it good, but I probably could do better if I had more time. Like for instance do the whole design process and get some better ideas, or even try to do something with the background.

weekly post - life observation
This morning while I was about to go to school; I observed the grass and the snow on my front lawn. It kind of made me think of the Earth. Like the land little pieces of snow left over would resemble Polar Ice Caps that are melting. The grass and dirt would symbolize land and the mud would symbolize water and how our Earth might be overflowed with water if global warming continued.

Vertigo
I used the type face Arial and unknown type face. I used the unknown type face to represent money because most detectives’ movies there usually are some sort of scam with money. I used areal to balance out the unknown font. I choose red as the Arial color so it would represent blood because most detective movies do involve some shootings. The pictures I choose where a detective with an unknown face and a never ending staircase. I choose the detective because it is about a detective. I choose the staircase because the detective has acrophobia which is a fear of heights. Also I saw in the original poster that there where swirls that resemble the staircase which may make the viewer of the poster think this is a re-make.

ME
My process started with me sketching a picture on facebook, but I didn’t really like the look of so I tried to capture the essence of my face in cartoon looking way. Then I put it on illustrator using a number of tools in including the circle tool, pen tool and the pencil tool. Once I made it look like my sketch I used the type on a path tool to put in the words.
Some design choices I used was making my t outline of my hair bolder than the rest because I seem to have thick hair. The type faces I used were Myriad Pro and Arial. The focal point is the hair because it seems the most interesting and the most crowed thing on the page and your eye seems to direct you there; I tried to make the focal point my eyes by making it bold and italic, but your eyes seem to lead back to the hair still. For placement I put in the top right corner so it would have good composition (L-Curve) and to show that I’m kind of tall. Some things I wrote to express myself were like annoying things I would say to my friends at the time, kind of like a catch phase, but for the top of my head I put stuff that I kind of think of like my favorite bands, music producers, artist, skateboarders, and best friends.
How do I think I did I think I did well because I seem to relate a lot of mental thoughts to my physical face.
